Any difference between AX GT´89 and AX GTi´92 cylinder heads?

I just got the TU3S engine which is going into my GTi. While I'm still searching for a VTS 16V cylinder head I'm going to use this engine as it is until i find one. Is there any perfomance difference between the cylinder heads of a GT and a GTi engine?

If there is I'll swap the heads!

Hello Malkus.

From the geometry of the head you can swap them, but it makes no sense!

The GTI-engine has a multipoint injection system with one injector for each cylinder, placed in the cilinderhead above each inlet-valve.
The GT has a monopoint injectionsystem with one central injector in the intakemanifold, therefore the GT-head has no mountingholes for the injectors.

The mountigbolts of the inletmanifold arent the same either, so you cant fit the GTI manifold to the GT head.

So you can use the GT cillinderhead only with the GT injectionsystem and this means loss of Power.

Thanks Micha! I had a look at it yesterday and came to the same conclusion. I've never had a look at a non GTi cylinder head before but i became very obvious after some seconds

Do you know if the cams shafts and rockers are the same between the heads? My new TU3S engine has only run 28000 km so I want to use as much of the parts as possible from that head.

I mean the GTI camshaft has a little bit bigger bearings, but Im not quite sure. I think the GT cam has other timings than the GTI engine. The GT has 15 hp less than the GTI. The rockers should be the same.

Aha! I'll take a close look at it. It would be interesting to know how much difference the injection system of the GTi makes. 15 hp sounds really too much so I too suspect that the cams are different. Pitty on such a fine cylinder head....
